A Clinical Study of Otogenic Complication

Abstract
Until the Sulfonamides began to be used for acute otitis media in 1935 and Penicillin was introduced in 1942. The otogenic complication was main problem in the ENT field. Thereafter, the incidence of acute otitis media and otogenic complication decreased abruptly.
The recent development of chemotherapy and antibiotic therapy has resulted in the decreased frequency of the intracranial complication due LO otitis media but recently inappropriate and inadequate therapy of these agents and the appearance of resistant strains of bacteria to the antibiotics has been altered the clinical symptom and course. So, early proper diagnosis and adequate treatment of the otogenic complication occasion-ally has been difficult problem.
For two years from June 1986 to June 1988, we have experienced 11 cases of otogenic complication in our department:2 cases of temporal lobe abscess, I case of meningitis, 1 case of pneumocephalus, 6 cases of¢¥otologic complication. This is the report of clinical findings on
the cases along with literature review.
